We’re very proud of our recreated historic beds, which can come complete with hangings and full sets of authentic bedclothes. Drawing on what we learned from producing the replica hangings and bedclothes for the famous Great Bed of Ware in the Victoria and Albert Museum, we’ve been supplying historic beds to many clients for many years.
View GalleryWe’ve reproduced beds dating from the 12th to the 20th centuries, including what we believe is the only mediaeval ‘suspended canopy’ bed ever authentically recreated. We’ve made Tudor, Stuart and Georgian four posters; Victorian and 1960s beds and simple servants’ and children’s beds of all periods, including the wheeled 'truckle beds' which were stored away under larger beds during the daytime.
Our beds aren’t always just for display. We’ve produced ‘interactive’ Elizabethan and Stuart beds for several historic houses, designed to be made up with bedclothes by children and other visitors, who can then get into them and try them out. They’re proving very popular. At another level, we’ve researched the details of English Heritage’s ‘fictive’ stage-prop bed at Kirby Hall.
We can also furnish and equip existing bedframes of any period: one of our most recent projects was the furnishing of a whole house-full of 1875 beds in a restored Victorian rectory. GET IN TOUCH to discuss historic beds, whether for display or for practical use.
